How the journey runs

  1. Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu

    Airport pickup, then your hotel for a ritual snan. In the evening, Pashupatinath for arati, where the priests press sandalwood tilaka on your forehead and give you a rudraksha bead.

  2. Day 2 Kathmandu to Pokhara

    A drive of six to seven hours through terraced fields and river gorges, or a 25 minute flight over the Himalaya. Evening walk along Phewa Lake with the Annapurnas reflected in it.

  3. Day 3 Rest day in Pokhara

    A deliberate pause before the altitude. Optional boating on Phewa Lake, the Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Cave.

  4. Day 4 Pokhara to Tatopani

    Into the Kali Gandaki, the deepest gorge in the world. Evening in the hot springs at Tatopani, which is what the name means: hot water.

  5. Day 5 Tatopani to Jomsom

    The landscape turns lunar and barren as you climb. Waterfalls, old villages, and by evening a wind strong enough to stop conversation.

  6. Day 6 Jomsom to Muktinath and back 3,710 m

    The day itself. Early drive up for darshan, the 108 spouts, and Jwala Mai, where a natural gas flame burns over water. Optional walk to Kagbeni, the gate to Upper Mustang.

  7. Day 7 Jomsom to Marpha to Pokhara

    Marpha in the morning for the apple orchards and the monastery, then the long descent back to Pokhara.
